  • Woman in a business meeting across from a man, looking tense with paperwork and drinks on the table.
  • So essentially, the title says it all, I thought I had escaped months of unemployment by joining a company as a project manager recently, it was originally listed as a temp to perm hire position.
  • It's a fairly new and small family owned business that I was excited to join, and the first few weeks went great. Though I did notice some people getting let go for
  • weird reasons? But I just truly thought it was because the company was so small and they had to cut costs where they could if that makes sense?
  • After being with the company for a few months, I finally met my boss in person with the second project manager, and we had a sit down lunch, where my boss
  • essentially "presented an optional additional job task "to basically have us also work as business partnership managers as well.
  • Essentially, they wanted us to agree to try and bring the company more business. I've done that in the past and that is a whole job on its own and when I asked
  • about pay, I was told that we would receive a small percentage of commission for every sale we brought in, but that there would be no pay bump nor would I
  • Woman and man seated at a small table in a tense work meeting with papers, coffee, and a glass of orange juice.
  • transition to salary. Up until this point, I've only been working hourly.
  • When I politely and professionally declined this, again optional ask, I was told by my boss that they "would not be able to financially keep me past July if I didn't do it."
  • So now, unfortunately, I'm going to be back in the unemployment pool but truthfully, I don't think I did anything wrong here. The
  • company is so small, We don't really even have an HR department for me to ask these kinds of questions to.
  • I thought about trying to reach back out and agree to it just to have a job, but my boss already let me know that they will not be
  • continuing with my contract once July gets here and that their mind cannot be changed. I'm just so confused and hurt.
  • carlee 16 There was a reason other employees were let go. No one wanted two job titles with no pay bump.
  • DealsRGood4U Update your resume & get back to work hunting for a new job. I would call this job more of a consultancy than an actual job.
  • Project manager paid on an hourly basis is odd. Was the commission less than the standard 5% to 20% depending on the industry?
  • How did you not meet or even bump into your boss. during the first few months, especially since it was a small company?
